Description
As DevOps Team Lead, you'll lead in matrix a team of DevOps engineers who work alongside R&D teams to deliver new features in Earnix's cloud-based decisioning products for global insurers and banks. Your engineers bring the infrastructure, deployment, and operational side of each feature, from design through production.
You own your engineers' growth, standards, and technical quality, while their day-to-day work runs inside other teams' delivery plans. Success means features that ship on time, run reliably in production, and are built the right way from the start.
Your team also takes part in the on-call rotation for Earnix's main products, so production reliability is part of the job, not an afterthought.
What You'll Do:
Lead, mentor, and grow a team of DevOps engineers who work with multiple R&D and product teams.
Lead within a matrix structure, where your engineers take part in other teams' planning and delivery while you own their professional growth, engineering standards, and technical direction.
Partner with R&D group leaders, product managers, and architects to plan the DevOps work each new feature needs, and to allocate the right people to it.
Balance competing priorities across the teams you support: manage capacity, make trade-offs transparent, and escalate when priorities conflict.
Bring DevOps into feature work early: design reviews, non-functional requirements, deployment strategy, security, cost, and production readiness.
Keep practices consistent across teams, so that infrastructure, pipelines, and deployments follow shared standards rather than one-off solutions.
Work closely with the Cloud Platform team to use and extend shared platform capabilities, and feed back requirements that come from feature work.
Improve delivery speed through automation, AI-assisted and agentic engineering workflows.
Ensure the production readiness of new features: observability, alerting, runbooks, and smooth handover to Support and operations.
Lead your team's participation in the 24/7 on-call rotation for Earnix's main products, including fair scheduling, readiness, and escalation paths.
Drive incident response and blameless post-mortems, and make sure lessons learned turn into fixes in the teams you support.
Make sure on-call engineers have what they need to handle incidents in products they didn't build: runbooks, dashboards, alerting, and knowledge sharing with R&D teams.
Define and track team goals and KPIs that cover delivery predictability, quality, and satisfaction of the teams you support.
Requirements
You'll Do It Using:
7+ years of DevOps experience, including at least 2 years managing engineers.
Proven experience leading in a matrix organization, where the people you manage work day to day with other teams or also answer to other leads.
Experience delivering features alongside product and R&D teams in an agile environment.
Strong stakeholder management, with a track record of aligning several teams on priorities and resolving conflicts constructively.
Hands-on experience with on-call and incident management for production SaaS systems, ideally including leading incident response.
Production expertise with AWS, Kubernetes (EKS), and Terraform.
Strong background in CI/CD (Jenkins or equivalent), GitOps (ArgoCD), Helm, and Docker.
Solid cloud networking, security, and IAM fundamentals.
Hands-on experience with observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, or Datadog.
Scripting in Python and/or Bash.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to adapt the message for engineers, product managers, and senior leadership.
Advantages:
A background as a software developer, or experience working closely with application code.
Experience with platform engineering concepts and internal developer platforms.
Familiarity with FinOps and designing features with cost in mind.
Familiarity with AI-assisted and agentic development tools (e.g. Cursor, Claude).
Experience in a global company working across time zones.
You'll Excel By:
Leading through influence as well as authority.
Thinking like a product engineer: caring about what ships and how it performs for customers.
Staying structured and calm when several teams need your people at once.
Keeping a steady head during production incidents, and caring about your team's sustainability on call.
Being proactive, accountable, and collaborative in a fast-paced, growing environment.
