Overview
Security represents the most critical priorities for our customers in a world awash in digital threats, regulatory scrutiny, and estate complexity. Microsoft Security aspires to make the world a safer place for all. We want to reshape security and empower every user, customer, and developer with a security cloud that protects them with end to end, simplified solutions. The Microsoft Security organization accelerates Microsoft's mission and bold ambitions to ensure that our company and industry is securing digital technology platforms, devices, and clouds in our customers' heterogeneous environments, as well as ensuring the security of our own internal estate. Our culture is centered on embracing a growth mindset, a theme of inspiring excellence, and encouraging teams and leaders to bring their best each day. In doing so, we create life-changing innovations that impact billions of lives around the world. Microsoft Defender is experiencing explosive growth and innovation protecting people, services, and devices around the world. This role sits at the front edge of that: we are moving Defender from responding to attacks to preventing them from ever succeeding. You will own the proactive protection charter — Predictive Shielding, Vulnerability Shielding, and identity takeover protection — deciding what Defender pre-emptively shields, on what evidence, and at what customer risk tolerance. If you are excited about creating new business value and amazing customer impact through core technical innovation, power of collaboration and a startup like mindset, then this is the role for you.
Microsoft’s mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. As employees we come together with a growth mindset, innovate to empower others, and collaborate to realize our shared goals. Each day we build on our values of respect, integrity, and accountability to create a culture of inclusion where everyone can thrive at work and beyond.
Responsibilities
• Own the vision, roadmap, and priorities for proactive shielding — predictive shielding, vulnerability shielding, and identity takeover protection — from concept through GA.
• Define the protection policy model: what gets shielded automatically, what requires customer opt-in, and how we price aggressive protection against operational disruption in production estates.
• Drive feature specifications and work closely with engineering and security research teams to deliver against the roadmap you set.
• Lead the steering forum and cross-team working groups for shielding, aligning research, engineering, and design across globally distributed teams.
• Run design-partner and customer programs — validate scenarios with enterprise design partners, convert feedback into roadmap decisions, and close the loop on regressions.
• Own the evidence bar for autonomous protection: simulation and validation tooling, false-positive/blast-radius measurement, and the criteria that gate private preview → public preview → GA. Represent the area externally — customer-facing documentation, blogs, conference sessions, and community engagement.
• Capture competitive and market trend data to inform product direction; become the subject matter expert in the domain.
